This charming little capital is home to over 1,3 million residents whoses urban area is the political, cultural and economic center of Sweden. Due to its many waterways and islands, Stockholm is sometimes referred to by tourists as "the Venice of the North".
The city of Stockholm is actually made up of a series of islands all connected with bridges and there are plenty of ferrys and public transport services available. Getting around the city without a car is fairly simple, but it is always a good idea to pick a region of the city you want to explore the most and get a hotel room nearest to that spot.
Stockholm is filled with exciting things to do and see. The city has over 100 museums, medieval streets with buildings from the 13th century that will satisfy even the biggest history buff. The city also sports Scandinavia´s largest shopping district, a wide selection of cafés and restaurants for every budget, plus and magnificent scenery that is hard to match.
Stockholm is a very trendy town and many locals like to think of it as the cultural center of the Nordics. When visiting you can expect to be exposed to some of the freshest and hottest trends in fashion, art and design and music. Sweden is the third biggest exporter of music after the U.S and the U.K with more than $800 million in revenue in 2008 . Some successful Swedish bands include: Abba, The Hives, The Cardigans, Peter Bjorn and John, Kent, Roxette, Ace of Base and Eagle-Eye Cherry.
